BBQ Ribs: Fall-Off-The-Bone Tender and Smoky

1. Prepare the Ribs
- Preheat the oven to 275°F (135°C).
- Remove the white membrane from the back of the ribs (the side with less meat). Pat the ribs dry and check for any bone shards.
- Season the ribs generously with salt and pepper, or use the optional rib rub. Massage the rub into the ribs for even coating.
2. Bake the Ribs
- Line a baking tray with foil and place the ribs on it, meaty side down.
- Top the ribs with sliced onions and garlic.
- Cover and seal the tray tightly with another piece of foil.
- Bake for 2 hours. Carefully open the foil and check if the ribs are tender by pulling off a small piece of meat. If not, bake for an additional 20-30 minutes.
3. Make the BBQ Sauce
- While the ribs are baking, combine the BBQ sauce, chili sauce, and ketchup in a bowl. Mix well and set aside.
4. Finish the Ribs
- Remove the ribs from the oven and discard the juices, onions, and garlic.
- Brush the ribs lightly with olive oil, then generously coat them with the BBQ sauce.
- Grill or broil the ribs over medium-high heat for 5-10 minutes, or until the sauce is caramelized and slightly charred.
5. Serve and Enjoy
- Let the ribs rest for a few minutes before slicing.
- Serve with extra BBQ sauce on the side and your favorite sides like coleslaw, cornbread, or baked beans.
Tips for Perfect BBQ Ribs
- Remove the Membrane: This ensures the ribs are tender and allows the seasoning to penetrate better.
- Low and Slow: Baking at a low temperature ensures the ribs are fall-off-the-bone tender.
- Customize the Sauce: Adjust the sweetness or spice level of the BBQ sauce to your liking.
- Grill for Smokiness: Finish on the grill for a smoky flavor, or broil for a quick caramelized finish.
- Rest Before Serving: Let the ribs rest for 5-10 minutes to lock in the juices.
